Did The Rock Just Drop The Peoples Elbow On The Apple Earpods?

Under Armour, in collaboration with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has just released the latest offering in their Project Rock signature collection of gym-friendly audio equipment – and these are destined to smash the competition.

The Under Armour Project Rock True Wireless In-Ear Headphones are exactly what they sound like – completely wireless in-ear headphones that, uh, rock.

Specifically designed to deliver industry-best sound quality in loud gym environments, these Project Rock earbuds boast some beefed-up specs that can withstand sweat, rapid movement, and busy workout environments.

The in-ear design has been tweaked so that the speakers create a more full and all-encompassing sound experience compared to other pods on the market – plus, these earbuds feature “Ambient Aware” sound which allows key frequencies into the ears so that you aren’t completely cut off from the outside world – great for gym safety, and communicating with your gym buddies without having to switch off the tunes.

In for a marathon session? These buds give you five hours of playtime per power-up, with a charging case boasting an additional 20 hours of power.

Gearing up for a parkour session? Feel free to throw your body around at all angles – the Project Rock True Wireless In-Ear Headphones have a wingtip design that keeps the earbuds secure and snug in the ear, no matter how wild you get.

This isn’t the first of The Rock’s collaboration with Under Armour – the Project Rock line boasts a whole lot of gear and apparel, including over-the-ear wireless headphones like the UA Sport Wireless Train Project Rock Headphones.

The latest in-ear headphones from UA and The Rock take the best parts of those over-ear versions and package them down into an earbud for greater flexibility and portability, while retaining superior sound quality and durability with JBL’s water-proof Bluetooth speakers.

They even boast an “exclusive Rock-tuned sound curve” that pumps deep, bold bass.

UA likely took inspiration from the success of their Flash earbuds, as featured in the 2019 Men’s Health Awards for the best gear on the market, boosting the audio quality, sweat-resistance, and in-ear shape for their Project Rock True Wireless In-Ear Headphones.

Compared to the market leaders, Apple Airpods, the UA Project Rock earbuds have a huge advantage when it comes to workout performance.

Airpods are designed for everyday casual users, not serious athletes.

While the UA earbuds lack the seamless connectivity with Apple devices that makes the Airpods so appealing to Mac and iPhone users, it’s not a deal-breaker – the UA Project Rock earbuds can integrate with just a little more set-up on your part.

You can handle it. When it comes to physical performance – waterproof, sweat-proof, and designed to stay in the ear – we think that Under Armour and The Rock win out over Apple, hands-down.

While currently out of stock at the UA website, the Under Armour Project Rock True Wireless In-Ear Headphones are retailing at around $199 – not the cheapest in-ear options you can find, but certainly one of the best on the market.

According to The Rock these earbuds are “engineered for the hardest workouts on the planet and highest quality of sound. Like a fine tequila in your ear” – and we agree.
